The Marikina City government announced a two-day health break in both public and private schools amid rising cases of influenza-like illnesses.
"As an early precaution against the reported rise in flu and flu-like illnesses in schools in Marikina and in accordance with the recommendation of the City Health Office, we will have a two-day health break for all levels in public and private schools starting tomorrow, 13 October, until 14 October, Tuesday," Mayor Marjorie Ann "Maan" Teodoro said in a statement.
Teodoro said the move is a preemptive measure to protect the health and well-being of students, teachers, and school personnel, to prevent the spread of the illness and allow everyone time to recover.
"While students are on health break, extensive cleaning and disinfection in schools will be carried out to ensure a safe and orderly return to classes," she said.
"Those who are sick are advised to stay at home, rest, and drink plenty of water, and consult a doctor immediately if they feel a flu-like symptom," the mayor added.
