The U.S. authorities have arrested and taken into custody the individual suspected of assassinating right-wing commentator and Donald Trump ally Charlie Kirk on Friday, 12 September.

The suspect has been identified as Tyler Robinson, 22, a local from Utah, where he previously attended school.

During a Friday morning press conference, Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed the arrest, stating that Robinson was identified through surveillance footage.

“We got him,” Cox announced, revealing that Robinson was apprehended on Thursday and is facing charges including capital murder, weapons violations, and obstruction of justice.

Governor Cox added that the investigation gained momentum after one of Robinson's relatives shared his confession with a friend, who then alerted authorities.

During questioning, the family member noted that Robinson had become increasingly political in recent years.

They recalled a conversation in which Robinson expressed disapproval for Kirk’s visit to Utah Valley University and criticized the commentator’s views.

According to Reuters, Robinson has no prior criminal record, is not affiliated with any political party, and hasn’t voted in recent elections—classified as an "inactive" voter.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Utah Department of Safety released new footage Thursday evening showing a suspect jumping from a rooftop at Utah Valley University before fleeing into nearby trees moments later.
