Police rescued a 3-year-old child and arrested the family’s housemaid after she allegedly kidnapped the child and demanded a P150,000 ransom.

According to Police Col. Randy Glenn Silvio, acting chief of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), the suspect was identified as alias “Joan,” from Northern Samar. The maid had worked for the family for nearly two years.

On Sunday at approximately 8:05 p.m., the suspect asked the child’s mother for permission to take the child to a nearby house to get medicine for a stomach ache. The suspect and child did not return.

Hours later, the child’s parents received a text message from the suspect demanding a P150,000 ransom for the child’s safe release and threatening to harm the child if the money was not paid.

The family immediately reported the incident to the Masambong Police Station.

Police quickly located and arrested the suspect along FPJ Avenue at 12:05 a.m. Monday. The child was rescued unharmed.

Police recovered a brown shoulder bag and the money used in the operation from the suspect. She has been charged with kidnapping for ransom.

“The successful arrest of the suspect and the safe rescue of the child are proof of the swift and effective response of the QCPD to crimes,” Silvio said.

“You can expect honest, prompt and humane service for the security of every citizen,” he added.
