Cainta Mayor Keith Nieto announced Tuesday that two specialist doctors have agreed to work for the city to address a medical issue, a move that he said will help residents get the care they need.
In a social media post, Nieto expressed his appreciation to Dr. May Priscilla Cero and Dr. Ivy Bernardo, saying their response showed a spirit of self-sacrifice.
Nieto said he had been approached by parents whose children have cancer and were struggling to afford care at private hospitals.
He then asked Cainta Municipal Hospital administrator Dr. Antonio Jayson Sierra to find an oncologist hematologist who would be a consultant for the city’s medical facility.
“This morning, perhaps through the prayers of the hopeful parents, Dr. May Priscilla Cero came into the lives of the people of Cainta,” Nieto said.
Cero, a pediatric hematologist oncologist, will hold a clinic at the hospital every Saturday.
“I was nervous at first that she wouldn’t agree,” Nieto said. “But less than two minutes after I stated my purpose, I got her to sign on to work for us.”
Nieto also announced that Bernardo, an obstetrician-gynecologist, recently responded to his call to run a birthing clinic at the newly opened Karangalan Super Health Center.
The center operates 24 hours a day and offers a range of services, including a laboratory, diagnostic procedures and select surgical operations, to reduce the number of patients at the city’s main hospital.
