The East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) is under public scrutiny after receiving a complaint from the family of a patient through viral social media posts.
Shaira Bugarin, whose father died on 25 July 2025, shared her frustrations online, accusing the hospital of negligence that she claims contributed to his death.
Bugarin recounted the heartbreak of watching her father’s condition worsen during his two-month confinement at EAMC. She alleged that surgery was delayed, doctors were scarce, and hospital departments seemed out of sync.
“Imagine, for two months stay na hindi na nga sya naoperahan, nagka type 2 diabetes at Pneumoniae pa sya under your care tapos cause of death sa Death Cert, SEVERE SEPSIS,” she wrote.
She also criticized the conduct of some hospital staff, claiming they appeared disengaged — chatting casually while on duty — and mishandled her father’s oxygen supply.
In another Facebook post, Bugarin shared screenshots allegedly showing EAMC staff responding to her plea by mocking her grammar.
Netizens have since shared similar alleged experiences with the hospital. EAMC has yet to release an official statement regarding the allegations.
Meanwhile, the Philippine College of Physicians (PCP) issued a statement on 10 August condemning a broadcaster for publicly calling out a physician in a social media post. The group urged the public to verify information before posting unsubstantiated claims online, reminding that doctors often work tirelessly and that disputes should be resolved through dialogue rather than public attacks. PCP also vowed to stand by their colleagues facing unfair treatment.
