  • The Land Transportation Office (LTO) launched an investigation and issued a show-cause order against the registered owner and rider of a motorcycle involved in a viral collision along Ayala Avenue in Makati City.

The incident occurred Sunday when the motorcycle reportedly struck two runners while driving through an area designated as a car-free zone.

The LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division directed both the owner and the rider to appear for a formal hearing 8 September 2026.

Under the order, both parties must submit sworn statements and supporting documentation explaining the event.

Officials said the rider faces potential charges of reckless driving and disregarding traffic signs, which could lead to the suspension or revocation of his driver’s license on grounds of being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the LTO placed the motorcycle under alarm. The rider’s driver’s license was also flagged and ordered surrendered to the investigation division under a 90-day preventive suspension.

“If there is a clear prohibition, there should also be clear compliance,” LTO chief Markus Lacanilao said.

“In the Makati incident, we will not allow a violation that put at risk people who should have been safely using the road to go without consequence.”
