The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) wants to open more facilities to the public just like how it did with the track ovals.

PSC chairman Patrick “Pato” Gregorio said they are studying the prospects of opening other facilities to the public in light of the positive reactions they have drawn after opening the track ovals.

But they are also making sure it doesn’t interfere with the training of the national team athletes as they prepare for major competitions like the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand from 9 to 20 December.

The track ovals at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila, Philsports complex in Pasig City and Teachers Camp in Baguio City have been open to the public after President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos gave a marching order during his State of the Nation Address last month.

“Right now, we would like to understand that there are the upcoming SEA Games. So, the athletes need to avoid distractions,” Gregorio said.

“The track oval is wide and can be used by anyone. We just need to study it thoroughly for the other facilities before we open them to the public.”

For now, Gregorio is encouraging the public to utilize the track ovals which are free of charge from 3 to 10 p.m.

“You can walk and run. You don’t need to pay a fee,” Gregorio said.

“As we said, tuloy po kayo, and exercise. That’s the encouragement from our President.”
