The Philippine Postal Corporation has unveiled commemorative stamps celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and India, coinciding with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s state visit to New Delhi this week.
President Marcos and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi jointly unveiled the joint stamp release during the five-day state visit, which runs from Aug. 4 to 8.
The stamps feature the anniversary’s commemorative logo, incorporating both nations’ flags and showcasing their national flowers: the sampaguita for the Philippines and the lotus for India.
“The Philippine Postal Corporation proudly issues commemorative stamps in recognition of the enduring friendship between the Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of India. This is a testament to both countries’ commitment to fostering mutual understanding, cultural exchange, and meaningful cooperation,” Postmaster General Maximo C. Sta. Maria III said.
He added, “This milestone is a lasting legacy to the shared history and vibrant ties of the two nations, and it inspires continued partnership and goodwill for generations to come.”
On the stamp, the sampaguita symbolizes purity, humility, and strength—core values of Filipino culture—while the lotus holds spiritual and cultural importance in Indian traditions, representing enlightenment, beauty, and eternity.
Formal diplomatic ties between the Philippines and India were established in 1949, followed by a Treaty of Friendship in 1952.
