City of Dreams Sri Lanka, a landmark integrated resort development by John Keells Holdings PLC (JKH) and Melco Resorts & Entertainment, launched on 2 August 2025, marking a major milestone in South Asian tourism and luxury lifestyle infrastructure.

Touted as South Asia’s first fully integrated resort and Sri Lanka’s largest private sector investment in luxury tourism to date, the development represents an investment of over USD 1.2 billion. The project brings together high-end hospitality, upscale retail, gaming, entertainment, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) facilities in a single destination located in central Colombo.

The final phase of the development includes the opening of a world-class casino, a luxury shopping mall, and the Nüwa hotel under Melco’s flagship brand. These elements complement the previously launched 687-room Cinnamon Life hotel, bringing the total room count at the resort to 800.

City of Dreams Sri Lanka is expected to attract global travelers with its premium features, which include:

  • 113-room ultra-luxury Nüwa hotel, operated by Melco

  • State-of-the-art casino and entertainment zone built to international standards

  • Expansive MICE facilities aimed at hosting regional and global events

  • Signature dining experiences from internationally acclaimed chefs

  • Immersive performance and cultural venues

The project aims to redefine Colombo’s tourism appeal, banking on Sri Lanka’s strategic location and rising regional demand for premium tourism experiences. It also emphasizes sustainable development, featuring eco-friendly technologies and initiatives supporting local art, culture, and communities.

John Keells Group Chairperson Krishan Balendra called the opening of the Nüwa hotel and casino “the realization of a key pillar” in the decade-long vision behind the integrated development. “This milestone sets a new benchmark in South Asia for world-class lifestyle, entertainment, and retail offerings,” Balendra said. He added that the project would enhance Colombo’s tourism competitiveness, generate foreign exchange, and create local employment opportunities.

Melco Resorts & Entertainment Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho said their entry into Sri Lanka represents confidence in the country’s tourism potential. “City of Dreams Sri Lanka is expected to serve as a catalyst for stimulating tourism demand and promoting economic growth,” he said.
