A Philippine Air Force (PAF) personnel received medical attention and is out of danger after being bitten by a snake at Villamor Air Base on Monday, according to PAF Commander Lt. Gen. Arthur Cordura.
The incident occurred while PAF members were at the base to escort President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. before his departure for a five-day state visit to India.
Cordura disclosed that the personnel only required a tetanus shot as the snake, identified as a python, was not venomous.
He explained that the presence of snakes at the base is not unusual, as the area is interconnected with other localities and recent rains have made the environment damp and conducive for reptiles.
“We have animals like that around the base because from Pasay… the canals, when we do excavation, we find snakes at the periphery,” Cordura said, adding that while snakes are present, this was the first time such an incident occurred at Villamor.
