The Porsche Taycan model is named the EV of the Year for 2025 by Car and Driver, earning the top spot among 24 electric cars from 15 different manufacturers.
The electric vehicles were tested for handling, braking, acceleration, charging, range, and then rated in four separate categories — Fun to Drive, Mission Fulfillment, Value and Technology Application — by Car and Driver editors.
After driving a range of Taycan models, including the rear-wheel drive sedan and Cross Turismo variants to the record-setting Taycan Turbo GT, the editorial staff of Car and Driver selected the Taycan as the clear winner.
“From the entry-level Taycan to the 1019-hp Taycan Turbo GT, Porsche’s electric sedan is filled with the same joy and excellence as the brand’s sports cars,” said Car and Driver editor-in-chief Tony Quiroga.
Porsche first launched the Taycan in 2020 as its entry into fully electric mobility. With its 800-volt architecture, the model is capable of high performance, long driving range, and fast charging times. Over the years, the Taycan expanded into a full range of models and body styles, including a crossover with off-road capability.
The EV of the Year award by Car and Driver is the latest accolade for the Taycan after securing Road & Track’s Performance EV of the Year recognition twice in a row. Recently, the model also set a new lap record for production EVs at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta with the Taycan Turbo GT.
The award signals Porsche’s continued leadership in electric performance and reinforces the Taycan’s position as the most compelling EV currently on the market.
