Christian Bautista, the voice behind some of the region’s most cherished love songs, officially kicks off a new era in his career with the release of his latest single, “Rainbow,” under Sony Music Entertainment. Teaming up with award-winning Indonesian singer-songwriter Raisa, the duet marks a stirring reimagining of the beloved South Border classic — now reinvented as a tender pop-R&B ballad for a new generation of Southeast Asian listeners.
With Bautista’s rich, signature baritone and Raisa’s velvety, emotive vocals, the pair offers a version of “Rainbow” that is both nostalgic and refreshingly modern. The collaboration not only highlights the musical synergy between two of Southeast Asia’s most revered voices, but also serves as a beautiful cultural bridge between the Philippines and Indonesia.
“‘Rainbow’ is one of those songs that’s always stayed with me,” Bautista shares. “It resonates deeply, not just in the Philippines, but also in Indonesia. Working on it with Raisa gave it new energy and meaning. It felt right to share it in this way now.”
For Raisa, the song holds personal significance as well.
“I grew up with this song, and I loved it even before I realized it was by a Filipino artist!” she recalls. “It’s not just a love song — it’s about life and hope. It’s something people can carry with them every day. Collaborating with Christian, someone I admire so much, made it even more special.”
A MEETING OF MUSICAL MINDS
The duet was born out of a shared experience during a 13-city ASEAN concert tour in Japan, where Bautista and Raisa shared the stage. Their mutual admiration as performers quickly blossomed into a creative connection.
“We hit it off instantly,” says Bautista. “We talked about the songs we both loved, and ‘Rainbow’ just stood out. It was a natural choice.”
“Christian is already so big in Indonesia — I grew up listening to his songs,” Raisa adds. “When the idea of a duet came up, I didn’t hesitate. He’s such a great artist and an even greater person.”
With decades of success across Southeast Asia, Bautista’s presence in both the Philippines and Indonesia has long been cemented by his heartfelt ballads and genuine artistry. Raisa, on the other hand, is a household name in Indonesia, lauded for her soul-stirring vocals and elegant pop sensibilities. Their union for “Rainbow” was, in many ways, destined.
HONORING THE PAST, EMBRACING THE PRESENT
In crafting the duet, the artists made a conscious effort to preserve the soul of the original while giving it a fresh, contemporary twist. With subtle key changes and harmonies tailored for a male-female dynamic, the arrangement retains its emotional resonance while opening up a new sonic space for cross-cultural listeners.
“With a timeless song like this, you shouldn’t overdo it,” Raisa explains. “We stayed true to the original while giving it just enough of a new feel. Every step of the way, we made sure to honor the song.”
Despite scheduling constraints that forced them to record parts separately, the final track exudes cohesion and chemistry.
“It’s hard when you’re not in the same room,” Raisa admits. “Matching phrasing, vibrato, and emotion — those are things that matter. But in the end, I think we blended beautifully.”
Christian agrees:
“We knew when to take the lead and when to step back. That balance — giving space to each other — made the performance more sincere.”
A SHARED LOVE FOR MUSIC AND MEANING
What makes “Rainbow” resonate so strongly with audiences in both countries is the shared cultural affinity for heartfelt ballads, rich melodies, and hopeful storytelling.
“There’s a natural connection between our audiences,” Raisa observes. “We both love 90s R&B, romantic themes, and music with depth. This collaboration taps into all of that.”
“We didn’t just want to re-record a song,” says Bautista. “We wanted to make it meaningful again — to reflect today’s emotions while keeping the spirit of the original intact.”
The track was brought to life by a collaborative team of Filipino and Indonesian producers and arrangers, carefully fusing each culture’s musical sensibilities to create a sound that transcends borders.
BEYOND THE DUET: WHAT’S NEXT?
With the release of “Rainbow” already generating buzz across streaming platforms, Bautista and Raisa are looking ahead with even greater excitement.
“We’re planning joint performances and a music video,” Bautista reveals. “This isn’t a one-off project — it’s the beginning of something deeper. We want to keep building bridges through music.”
