Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) and two Vietnam-based firms are set to begin a joint study to identify locations for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and taxi hubs in Metro Manila and other key cities, aiming to accelerate the local shift to sustainable transport.

The Pangilinan-led firm said Wednesday it signed a memorandum of understanding with V-Green Global Charging Station Development Corp. (V-Green), Vietnam’s top EV charging infrastructure provider, and Green and Smart Mobility Joint Stock Company (Green GSM), to support the planned rollout of EV infrastructure nationwide.

Through the partnership, the companies will evaluate strategic sites for EV charging and electric taxi hubs, develop low-carbon mobility solutions, and collaborate on technical studies and knowledge sharing to support efficient network deployment.

“By combining our expertise in EV charging infrastructure with Meralco’s strong local presence, we aim to rapidly deploy a reliable and accessible charging network across the Philippines,” said V-Green CEO Nguyen Thanh Duong.

Dao Quy Phi, CEO of Green GSM Philippines, added: “Our goal is not only to provide safe, convenient, and affordable transportation, but also to play an active role in building a greener future for Filipino communities.”

V-Green currently powers the charging network for VinFast, Vietnam’s top EV maker, while Green GSM operates a fleet of fully electric ride-hailing vehicles using VinFast units.

Locally, the three firms are building an end-to-end electric mobility ecosystem covering EV distribution, charging, and ride-hailing operations.
