If wearing white for one’s wedding means “purity,” celebrity fashion designer Francis Libiran thinks wearing something that is not white means “diversity.”
At the recent “Marry Me at Marriott Philippine Gratus Gala,” presented by Marriott Bonvoy in Manila Marriott Hotel in Pasay City, Francis presented his latest bridal collection alongside other esteemed designers: Michael Cinco, Vania Romoff, Michael Leyva and Rajo Laurel.
In an exclusive interview with DAILY TRIBUNE, Francis said he believes brides today are very independent and can think for themselves, so for them, the designer presented a classic but non-traditional omnibus.
“My collection is like a rebellious bride. If you see, I use non-traditional colors like black-red, black-gold, silver. I want a diversity of all the brides,” he explained.
Instead of the usual tulle veil, he complemented the pieces with silk veil, “So when the bride walks, it flows in the wind,” he espoused.
Miss Universe 2023 Top 10 finalist Michelle Dee was the collection’s literal cherry on top as she rocked a deep crimson gown, capping off her strut with a dramatic turn and showcase of her red translucent wedding veil.
“I’m always into Art Deco. I love lines, so if you notice the embroidery, I tried to do something that’s classic and yet it’s different,” said the designer, who is also an architect.
“By using different colors, I want to show that brides come with different colors in their personalities.”
