Over 200 lawmakers led by House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez gathered at the Manila Cathedral on Sunday, 27 July 2025, for a thanksgiving Mass ahead of the formal opening of the 20th Congress.
The Mass, which began at 4:00 PM, was presided over by Manila Archbishop Jose F. Cardinal Advincula. It was attended by members of the House of Representatives, along with Secretariat officials and employees, who sought blessings and guidance before resuming legislative work.
In his homily, Cardinal Advincula reminded the lawmakers of their responsibility not only as public servants representing the Filipino people, but also as individuals accountable before God.
The 20th Congress will formally open on Monday, 28 July, coinciding with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA).
