ORANI, Bataan — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is rushing pothole repairs along Roman Highway to ensure motorist safety, an official said Saturday.
DPWH Bataan 1st District Engineer John Paolo Tan said monsoon rains caused slight delays but their crews are now working on-site.
“We’re fast-tracking repairs despite earlier setbacks due to the southwest monsoon,” Tan said.
Meanwhile, in Barangay Tuyo, Balanga City, an aging dike gave way following heavy rains from tropical storm “Crising” and the southwest monsoon.
DPWH Bataan 2nd District Engineer Roland Rainier Victorino said the breach was inspected on 24 July, and temporary sandbagging began the next day.
“The damage has been included in the official calamity report to secure funds for full repair,” Victorino said.
Local officials and rescuers evacuated nearby residents as floodwaters rose. Among those rescued was 75-year-old dialysis patient Regalado Cuasay, who had to be transported in a tub due to limited mobility.
Barangay Captain Eulalio Montifalco Jr. said the dike’s breach started small but worsened quickly due to strong water flow and continuous rain.
