As rains and flooding may continue in the coming days and potentially affect President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA), the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) says it is prepared for any eventualities.
In a virtual briefing on Tuesday, OCD Officer-in-Charge Assistant Secretary Raffy Alejandro said it will be up to the House of Representatives to decide whether the SoNA will proceed as scheduled.
“We will depend on the protocol of Congress if they will suspend the SONA. But we, in NCR, we are closely coordinating with the [Philippine National Police] to ensure an orderly conduct of the flow of those who will attend the SONA,” he said.
Apart from lawmakers, the annual event on Monday, 28 July 2025, is expected to be attended by guests and foreign dignitaries.
The OCD is also preparing surrounding areas near the Batasang Pambansa complex in anticipation of possible inclement weather.
“In the event that — or there is a suspension of work or classes, our emergency responders will still be on standby in case assistance is needed during the SONA,” Alejandro said.
