The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said Saturday it is prepared to respond to electricity-related issues caused by the continued impact of Severe Tropical Storm "Crising" and the southwest monsoon.
In a statement, Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga said the utility is closely monitoring the weather as parts of its franchise area continue to experience moderate to heavy rains.
“Our crews are ready to respond to any possible electricity service concern,” Zaldarriaga said. “We also reiterate our call to the public to observe safety measures when using electrical devices and appliances, especially when there is flooding.”
Meralco advised the public to switch off their main electrical power or circuit breakers during flooding and to avoid contact with electrical facilities unless completely dry. It also recommended unplugging appliances, turning off permanently connected equipment, and ensuring electrical devices are dry and inspected by licensed electricians before use.
Customers were also urged to keep communication devices fully charged and accessible in case of emergencies.
Meralco said customers may report outages or service issues through its Facebook page (www.facebook.com/meralco), Twitter (@meralco), by texting 0920-9716211 or 0917-5516211, or calling the hotline at 16220.
