The Philippine government has lowered its alert level in Iran, more than two weeks after the United States brokered a truce between Tehran and Tel Aviv.

In a statement on Friday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced the lowering of the alert level in Iran — from Alert Level 3 or voluntary repatriation to Alert Level 2 or restriction phase.

The DFA cited the “positive developments in the security situation” in Iran as the basis of its decision.

Despite the lowering of the alert level, the department stressed that the Philippine Embassy in Tehran will continue facilitating the voluntary repatriation of Filipinos in their host country.

“The department will closely monitor the situation in the region and will update the alert levels, as necessary,” the DFA said.

The government previously placed both Israel and Iran under Alert Level 3, allowing the voluntary repatriation of Filipinos due to the heightened security risks in the region last month.

According to the DFA, Israel is the second home to at least 30,742 Filipinos while there are 1,180 Filipinos in Iran.
