Taiheiyo to finish P3.72-B cement terminal in Batangas

Taiheiyo Cement Philippines, Inc. (TCPI) announced it is on schedule to complete its P3.72-billion Luzon Distribution Terminal in Calaca, Batangas by the second quarter of 2026, marking a major milestone in its long-term commitment to the Philippine market.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) lauded the project, highlighting its strategic role in supporting the country's infrastructure development and growing demand for high-quality cement across Luzon. Once fully operational, the terminal is expected to significantly increase Taiheiyo’s production capacity to 4 million metric tons annually and generate around 26,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The upcoming Batangas terminal will also serve as a hub for the distribution of blended cement—an eco-friendly product that reduces carbon emissions through the use of recycled industrial materials such as fly ash and slag.

“This project exemplifies the type of investment that Bagong Pilipinas champions: one that creates jobs, drives innovation, and supports our sustainability goals,” the DTI said in a statement.

The Luzon terminal forms part of Taiheiyo’s larger P21-billion (JPY 54 billion) multi-phase investment strategy in the Philippines. The company, a subsidiary of Japan’s leading cement producer Taiheiyo Cement Corporation, plays a key role in the group’s Southeast Asia expansion, employing hundreds of Filipinos from its Cebu-based headquarters.

Special Trade Representative Dita Angara-Mathay of the DTI’s Tokyo office emphasized the importance of such ventures: “As infrastructure continues to be a pillar of national growth, industry leaders like Taiheiyo will be at the forefront of helping us meet both current and future demand.”

With a long-term outlook spanning 50 to 100 years, Taiheiyo reaffirmed its commitment to being a dependable partner in the country’s push for industrial and infrastructure development.
