ILOILO CITY — The Department of Science and Technology (DoST) officially opened AI Fest 2026 on Monday at the Iloilo Convention Center, bringing together government leaders, industry experts, researchers, and students to promote the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
The three-day event, centered on the theme “Building an AI-Ready Future, Together,” aims to strengthen the nation’s AI ecosystem by encouraging ethical and collaborative applications across governance, industry, education, research and the creative sector.
The festival includes conferences, competitions, exhibitions, workshops and policy discussions. Featured sub-events include an AI Technical Conference, an AI Hackathon, the PGDX AI Expo, SineAI, AI Game On!, AI in Motion, AI Speaks, AI Connect and the AI Policy Lab.
In her welcome address, Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas stressed that artificial intelligence is already actively transforming daily life, education, employment, and public services.
She urged participants to use the technology to render healthcare, business, and government services more inclusive and accessible.
“As we explore what AI can do, let us also remember what only people can do to lead with integrity, think with purpose and serve with compassion,” Treñas said. She also invited delegates to sample the city’s local heritage, cuisine and hospitality.
Key officials present at the opening ceremony included Science and Technology Secretary Renato Solidum Jr., Western Visayas regional director Rowen Gelonga and Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Western Visayas regional governor Fulbert C. Woo.
AI Fest 2026 runs through Wednesday, drawing participants from across the country to examine developments in artificial intelligence.
