The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Eduardo de Vega confirmed that there are no Filipino casualties in the flash floods that struck central Texas.

In a televised interview on Wednesday, De Vega said no Filipinos have reached out to the Philippine Consulate General to seek assistance.

“I will quote the report of our Consulate: Post has not received any reports of Filipino nationals among the casualties or those adversely affected by calamities. Post has reached out to local authorities and leaders of the Philippine-American community in Kerrville and the nearby cities of Austin and San Antonio to monitor developments and to obtain any further information on potentially affected Filipinos.”

He added that there are only a few Filipinos living in Kerr County, the town 900 miles from Houston where the heavy floods occurred.

Citing data from Consul General Gunther Sales, there are around 240,000 Filipinos in Texas, with fewer than 100 living in Kerrville.

Family members of Filipinos in Kerrville who wish to seek assistance for their relatives may contact +1 346 256 4522.

“Give the names of your relatives who might have lost contact with you and our Consulate will find a way to verify their situation,” De Vega said.
