Green GSM, Southeast Asia’s all-electric ride-hailing company, has been honored with the Green Leadership Award at the 2025 Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA) held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Developed by Vietnam’s Green and Smart Mobility Joint Stock Company (GSM), the company was recognized for its impact on sustainable transport and its efforts to grow a greener mobility ecosystem, not just in Vietnam, but across Southeast Asia. In just two years, Green GSM has expanded operations to Laos, Indonesia, and recently, the Philippines, completing over 300 million trips and clocking in around 1.7 billion zero-emission kilometers.

The award reflects the brand’s unique approach: Running its own electric fleet while also allowing independent VinFast EV owners to join the network. In some markets, it has even started partnering with traditional taxi operators to help them shift to electric vehicles. The model has not yet rolled out to the Philippines, but the company officially launched in Metro Manila last 10 June.

At the ceremony, GSM’s Director of Training and Culture Development, Ms. Phan Thi Hong Dung, received the award. “Sustainability isn’t just part of our plan — it’s part of our culture,” she said. “Every ride should make a difference, not just to the environment, but also to how we serve and support our communities.”

The Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards, founded in 2011, is one of the region’s most respected recognitions for corporate social responsibility and sustainability. This year’s theme, A Necessary Shift to a Regenerative Economy, placed emphasis on businesses helping restore ecosystems and build long-term value for communities.

In Vietnam, Green GSM already holds a 40 percent share of the electric taxi market and works with almost 100 transport companies. Nineteen of those partners have fully converted their fleets to electric.

Now operating in four countries, Green GSM is officially the second-largest ride-hailing brand in Southeast Asia — and the only one that runs solely on electric power. The company estimates that its rides have reduced over 211,000 tons of CO₂ emissions, which is about what 3,200 hectares of forest can absorb in a year.

For GSM, this award is more than just a trophy. It’s a nod to what a local idea, powered by innovation and purpose, can do across borders.
