UN80 commemorative stamps unveiled

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost), in partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), officially launched the UN80 Commemorative Stamps Thursday, marking 80 years of the Philippines’ membership in the United Nations.

The ceremony took place at the Old Senate Hall of the National Museum of Fine Arts and the stamps celebrate the Philippines’ enduring commitment to multilateral cooperation, peace and development since becoming one of the founding signatories of the UN Charter on 26 June 1945.

With the theme “The Philippines’ 80 Years in the United Nations: A Journey of Hope & Endeavor,” the commemorative issue highlights the country’s contributions and continued engagement in the UN system.

DFA Assistant Secretary Maria Teresa Almojuela underscored the role of stamps as symbolic representations of national identity and international commitment.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo delivered the keynote address, reflecting on the Philippines’ legacy and evolving role within the UN over the past eight decades.

Public historian Ian Christopher Alfonso provided historical insights, followed by remarks from DFA Undersecretary Charles Jose, who focused on multilateralism and international partnerships. UN Resident Coordinator Arnaud Peral also affirmed the UN’s strong and ongoing partnership with the Philippines.

“The unveiling of the UN80 stamps is a powerful reminder that the smallest objects can hold the largest meanings. These symbols represent decades of cooperation, advocacy, and a shared commitment to peace, development, and global solidarity,” said postmaster general and CEO Luis Carlos.

Marthy Angue, the designer and artist of the UN80 stamp set, presented the artistic concept as a visual journey of cooperation and shared aspirations.

The UN80 Commemorative Stamps will be available in selected post offices nationwide and the stamp set features a setenant design priced at P16 and an Official First Day Cover at P18.
