A 36-year-old man died after being hit by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) while riding a bicycle along the eastbound lane of Shaw Boulevard, Barangay Kapitolyo, Pasig City, on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the initial investigation, the victim — a resident of San Andres, Cainta, Rizal — was riding his mountain bike when he collided with a Suzuki Carry, which was illegally parked on the side of Shaw Boulevard.
The driver of the Suzuki — a 39-year-old man from Barangay Buting, Pasig City — was unloading water gallons when the tailgate suddenly opened, hitting the right side of the victim's bicycle.
As a result, the victim lost control and fell. Shortly after, a Mitsubishi Montero Sport, driven by a 59-year-old man from Barangay Pinagbuhatan, also in Pasig City, accidentally ran over the victim, causing fatal injuries that led to his instantaneous death.
Both drivers were arrested and informed of their rights. A case of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property is being prepared for filing and inquest proceedings before the Pasig City Prosecutor’s Office.
