Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. (AIC) has officially assumed full operations of the Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA) in Panglao, Bohol, marking a major expansion of its airport portfolio and a significant step toward enhancing air connectivity in the Visayas.
The formal turnover from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) was completed on 16 June 2025. BPIA now becomes the third major gateway under AIC’s management, following its takeover of Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) and Laguindingan International Airport (LIA).
“We are excited to officially begin operations at Bohol-Panglao International Airport and bring our brand of operational excellence, innovation, and passenger-focused service to this important gateway,” said AIC President and CEO Cosette V. Canilao. “This project is about more than infrastructure — it’s about enabling tourism, empowering local economies, and creating more inclusive growth across the Visayas.”
Dubbed the country’s “Green Gateway to the World,” BPIA is the ninth-busiest airport in the Philippines and serves as a key tourism and economic hub. It is set to undergo a P4.53 billion upgrade under a public-private partnership led by AIC.
The planned improvements include expanding the passenger terminal building, upgrading both airside and landside facilities, and installing new airport systems and equipment. Initial developments are expected to increase BPIA’s passenger handling capacity from 2 million to 2.5 million passengers per year within the first two years. By 2030, AIC aims to expand capacity to 3.9 million passengers annually.
"This official handover marks the beginning of a new chapter for Bohol-Panglao International Airport,” said AIC Vice President and Head of Airports Rafael M. Aboitiz. “We are committed to transforming BPIA into a globally competitive gateway that reflects the beauty and hospitality of Bohol, while helping unlock its full tourism and economic potential.”
The addition of BPIA strengthens AIC’s strategic presence in the Visayas, where the Aboitiz Group traces its roots. MCIA, already recognized with a 4-star Skytrax rating, is the second-busiest airport in the country, while Laguindingan ranks sixth.
All three airports are part of AIC’s broader vision of modernizing Philippine aviation through integrated, tech-driven infrastructure — a mission aligned with the Aboitiz Group’s transformation into a techglomerate.
