The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has recently ordered regular police patrols across Metro Manila to counter robbers and other criminals posing as motorcycle taxi and delivery riders.
Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin said the NCRPO is coordinating with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and legitimate motorcycle taxi companies to help distinguish legitimate riders from imposters.
“The NCRPO took this matter seriously as a critical issue of public safety and brand integrity,” Aberin said in a statement.
He cited that the directive is particularly timely as classes are set to resume on 16 June.
Aberin highlighted a targeted operation conducted on 6 June at bus terminals in Quezon City, known gathering spots for motorcycle taxi riders.
This proactive measure followed increasing concerns about unauthorized individuals wearing ride-hailing uniforms to commit crimes such as hold-ups, shootings and kidnappings.
Aberin indicated that more targeted operations would be conducted in the coming days.
“This operation is a reflection of our swift and responsive public service, our unity with partner agencies, and our accountability to protect the public from criminal elements who exploit trust and identity,” Aberin said.
