The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is holding Precious Grace Bus Company accountable after one of its passengers with disability was assaulted by fellow commuters while onboard a bus along EDSA.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the move is in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure the safety of all commuters, especially those from vulnerable sectors.
“The government’s first responsibility is to protect the most vulnerable in society, including persons with disabilities. If you’re on public transport, your safety must be a priority, and that was not done here,” Dizon said.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the licenses of bus driver Mark Ivann Ramos and conductor Francis Sauro for failing to report the incident to authorities stationed at the EDSA Busway.
Dizon apologized to the victim and his family, assuring that the DOTr will provide the necessary assistance.
“We will help Mark and his family, and we sincerely apologize for what happened,” Dizon said.
The DOTr is also working with the Philippine National Police to identify and arrest those responsible for the assault.
“They must be caught and held accountable,” Dizon added.
