This huge drone mothership is a super state-of-the-art flying fortress that can carry six tons of bombs, missiles and drones. Its mission is to take out air defenses before or when they are activated. It is a sophisticated anti-defense mega weapon that can precede a massive strike.
Its range is 7,000 kilometers, effective for the scope of a regional war, like in the Middle East. Its side bellies can release 100 drones instantly in a massive attack or counterattack.
Its maximum altitude is 15,000 km. US experts, however, call it a “missile magnet,” a giant warplane with no stealth capability. But China claims that, at an altitude of 15,000 km., its maximum, it could do severe damage before surviving defense missiles hit it. Also, it has a sophisticated evasion capability. But we will never know if it is a success or failure until it is used in actual combat, just like the many sophisticated weapons still untested in actual war.
China’s drone mothership may, in theory, be effective against countries with minimal defense capabilities, like the Philippines, which has less than a dozen US EDCA bases. Of course, the sophisticated arsenals of the EDCA bases are not known, being a closely guarded secret. So, as mentioned, we will never really know until an actual all-out war ensues.
Marcos Jr. made a strategic decision to side with the Americans. This is good and bad. It is good as a deterrent to the abuses of China in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), our own territory, where the China Coast Guard uses lasers and water cannons against the Philippine Coast Guard, not to mention ramming Filipino vessels and the small boats of fisherfolk, and the inhuman blockade of food and supplies to Filipino troops stationed on a grounded ship.
It is also unfortunate that Filipinos have to buy the fish delicacy called pampano that is stolen by Chinese fishing vessels from our waters then smuggled and sold in Philippine markets, rather than from Filipino fisherfolk who are deprived of their livelihood.
But the Marcos Jr. decision is bad in the sense that it exposes us to possible massive collateral damage and the massacre of dense Filipino populations, especially those near the EDCA bases, the perceived sites of conflict in an all-out war.
And as mentioned often before, neutrality is perhaps impossible for the Philippines unless there is a treaty between China and the US not to force the Philippines to enter into an alliance with either one, and to respect the Philippines’ call for neutrality, which is next to impossible. So, China’s drone mothership will play a crucial role in the emergence of new powerful weapons waiting to be tested in an actual all-out war, just like other secret weapons hidden from the world and cyberspace.
