The Philippine International Jazz Festival (PIJazzfest) is back this June with a celebration of jazz, culture, and global artistry. Now on its 19th year, the festival carries the theme “Beyond Borders: Music for the World,” highlighting the timeless ability of jazz to connect people across cultures and generations.

Since its founding in 2006 by Jun and Sandra Viray, Edgar “Koyang” Avenir, and Zenaida Celdran, PIJazzfest has stayed true to its mission of bringing jazz closer to Filipino audiences. What began as a grassroots project has evolved into one of the country’s most respected music festivals, drawing jazz lovers, artists, and curious newcomers together through the joy of music.

This year’s festivities kick off with a special treat on 12 June 2025, as the world-renowned a cappella group Straight No Chaser takes the stage for a free pre-festival performance. The nine-man ensemble, known for their signature harmonies and electrifying shows, will be performing at 5:30 PM at the MOA Amphitheater, located at Level 4 of MOA Sky, Mall of Asia. As part of their Asian tour, this one-night-only performance is open to the public at no cost.

The main festival follows on 14 June 2025, starting at 4:00 PM at the APC Auditorium in Asia Pacific College, Magallanes. Hosted by Harvard scholar and jazz historian Jazzyphar, the evening promises a dynamic mix of performances from some of the best local and international artists. Awit Award-winning fingerstyle guitarist Jerome Rico will share the stage with Argentinian tango singer Anibal Ansin, accompanied by dancers Jang & Jenn. Audiences can also look forward to performances from genre-bending group Anima Tierra, the smooth stylings of Velvet Jazz, and Black Cows, a crowd favorite known for their tribute to Steely Dan.

Beyond the stage, festival goers can enjoy the PIJazz Lounge featuring food and drinks from Aristocrat and Casa Trinidad, pop-up music booths, a tattoo station by artist Janeea Miss Treat, a jazz history talk by Richie Quirino, and an Open Jam for spontaneous performances and surprises.

With its mix of global talent and Filipino creativity, PIJazzfest 2025 promises an unforgettable celebration of music without borders.
