The United Arab Emirates will reimpose its annual midday break on outdoor work under direct sunlight, effective from 15 June to 15 September, to protect laborers from extreme heat.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) announced that all work performed under the sun between 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM is prohibited during this period. This marks the 21st consecutive year of implementing the Midday Break policy.

MoHRE Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection and Compliance Mohsin Ali Al Nassi noted the initiative’s continued success, with a compliance rate of over 99% in recent years.

“This record highlights the deeply rooted social and humanitarian values within the UAE’s private sector,” Al Nassi said.

Meanwhile, Dalal Alshehhi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Protection, lauded the collaborative effort between the government and businesses.

“It has become a model of constructive partnership between the Ministry, the private sector, and the broader community,” she said.
