The local government of Malabon City has undertaken sandbagging operations to mitigate potential flooding along riverbanks and coastal areas while repairs continue on the Navotas-Malabon Navigational Gate.

In a statement, the local government said that the sandbagging aims to reduce flood risks in the city’s vulnerable areas.

The City Engineering Department placed at least 505 sandbags in the barangays of Hulong Duhat, Ibaba, Tañong, and San Agustin.

Barangay Hulong Duhat received the majority of the sandbags, particularly along the river wall in Gabriel 2 Subdivision and the Talabahan Riverwall.

The Malabon public information office said in a message that Barangays Flores and San Agustin also experience flooding, although these incidents typically occur during high tide and do not last the entire day.

The Metro Manila Development Authority has reported that the repair of the navigational gate, which suffered a mechanical issue, is expected to be completed by the second week of June.

In addition to sandbagging, the City Engineering Office and the City Environment and Natural Resources Office have conducted declogging operations along the city’s main roads, alleys, waterways, and drainage systems.
