Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Acting Director P/Col. Randy Glenn Silvio confirmed Wednesday that the truck driver involved in a tragic road incident on 28 May 2025, which left three people dead along Batasan-San Mateo Road in Brgy. Batasan Hills, tested positive for illegal drug use.
Silvio said a complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple physical injuries, and multiple damage to property was filed against the suspect on 30 May 2025.
The driver, identified only by the alias “Eruel,” underwent an alcohol breath analyzer (ABA) test and a drug test in compliance with Section 7 of Republic Act No. 10586, or the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013. While the ABA test conducted by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) yielded a negative result, the QCPD Forensic Unit’s drug test returned positive for methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as “shabu.”
Following the positive result, authorities conducted a thorough inspection of the Isuzu 10-wheeler truck involved in the incident. No illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia were found inside the vehicle.
Silvio said the suspect will also face charges for violation of R.A. 10586 before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
“This case serves as a clear warning to those who drive under the influence of illegal drugs. You will be held fully accountable under the law. At mabigat po ang parusa dito ayon sa batas — reclusion temporal o mahigit 12 years to 20 years maximum na pagkakakulong at may multang P300,000 to P500,000 pag namatay ang biktima,” Silvio said.
