A total of 18,934 unregistered motor vehicles were apprehended in May 2025 as the Land Transportation Office (LTO) continued its intensified campaign to compel motorists to renew their expired registrations.

LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II, said that the majority of the apprehended vehicles during the month-long operation were motorcycles and tricycles, numbering 12,206 and 3,105, respectively.

“Our campaign will remain aggressive until such time that we compel these motor vehicles to comply with their obligation to have their motor vehicles registered because it is through registration that motor vehicles are checked for road worthiness,” Mendoza said.

At least 1,800 vans and more than 1,000 private vehicles were also apprehended, along with passenger jeepneys, buses, and trucks.

Based on LTO data, Region 4A recorded the highest number of apprehensions with 9,906, followed by Region 4B and Region 2.

The LTO has been implementing the campaign against unregistered vehicles in coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other law enforcement agencies.

Mendoza urged vehicle owners to register their vehicles promptly to avoid penalties, noting that driving an unregistered motor vehicle incurs a P10,000 fine.

“This is not only part of your obligation as motor vehicle owners, it is part of your responsibility not only for your safety but also of your family,” Mendoza said.

He added that the campaign is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. to ensure road safety, under the guidance of Department of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon.
