ILOILO CITY — The City Health Office (ICHO) here confirmed on Monday that the number of monkeypox (Mpox) cases in Iloilo City has increased to four, with two additional suspected cases currently under monitoring.

ICHO head Dr. Mary Ann Diaz reported that all six individuals — the four confirmed and two suspected cases — are currently under isolation.

The confirmed patients are receiving appropriate medical care and are under continuous monitoring, while the suspected cases are being closely observed as they await confirmatory test results.

Diaz cited that none of the confirmed patients have a recent history of travel. However, one of them had been accompanied by a companion who had recently traveled, prompting an ongoing investigation into the possible source of infection.

She further confirmed that all confirmed patients are adults and some have existing comorbidities.

The city health office continues to implement containment measures in coordination with the city government, emphasizing the importance of early detection, public cooperation, and adherence to health protocols to prevent further transmission.

“We urge the public to cooperate and remain vigilant. Prevention starts with early action,” Diaz said.

Residents are strongly advised to seek early medical consultation and report symptoms accurately and honestly, self-isolate when experiencing symptoms, wash hands frequently with soap and water, wear masks and long-sleeved clothing, avoid crowded places and practice safe and mindful travel.

Diaz further assured the public that the city is equipped and ready to manage additional cases should the need arise.

The public is encouraged to contact the city health office via its official Facebook page for any inquiries or to report symptoms.

Meanwhile, the only confirmed Mpox case in Iloilo Province — involving a minor with no history of travel — has been declared recovered as of 23 May, according to provincial health authorities.
