Sy-led property developer SM Prime Holdings, Inc. is opening its first mall in Ilocos Norte and 88th nationwide on Friday, further expanding its footprint in high-growth regional areas.
“The opening of SM City Laoag reinforces our commitment to bring modern, accessible, and community-oriented retail experiences to underserved but fast-growing areas,” SM Prime president Jeffrey Lim said on Wednesday.
“We’re excited to support the region’s economic momentum,” he added.
SM City Laoag is located along Airport Road near the city center and Laoag International Airport. Surrounded by commercial zones and residential developments, the three-level complex offers over 51,000 square meters of gross leasable space.
It will open with 90 percent of its leasable area already awarded and is expected to create around 4,000 jobs across retail, operations, and support services.
SM City Laoag’s tenants include SM Store, SM Supermarket, SM Cinema, Ace Hardware, Pet Express, Miniso, and BDO.
Retail and lifestyle brands such as Levi’s, Columbia, Adidas, Watsons, and Parfois will also be present, along with dining options including TGI Fridays, Vikings, Marugame Udon, Café Amian, and Milk Pot.
Ilocos Norte recorded an 8.6 percent economic growth rate in 2024, the fastest among provinces in Region I, driven by gains in services, accommodation, and transport.
