The Senate on Wednesday, 28 May, issued an advisory to its employees declaring 6 June as a regular holiday in observance of Eid'l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice.

Citing Malacañang’s Proclamation No. 911, Senate Secretary Renator Bantug Jr. said the Senate also declared the said date as a regular holiday to give way for the major Muslim celebration.

“In accordance with Policy Order No. 2025-005 (OSP), Series of 2025, the Senate shall observe an 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. work schedule for the period of June 2 to 5, 2025,” Bantug said in an advisory.

“However, all assigned staff for the plenary session and committee hearings/meetings shall continue to assist unless otherwise directed,” he added.

The letter noted that personnel of the Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms and the Maintenance and General Services Bureau who follow a shifting schedule are not included in the shortened work hours.

The date of the celebration was chosen based on the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos following the Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar.

Eid’l Adha is the second of the two main holidays celebrated by Islam around the world. It commemorates the prophet Abraham's (Ibrahim) willingness to sacrifice his son, Ishmael (Ismail), as an act of obedience to Allah’s command.
