
The Makati City Police arrested a robbery suspect within hours after the incident.
Based on police report, at around 4:40 P.M. on 27 May, Tuesday, the victim was walking along Polaris corner Anza Street when two motorcycle-riding suspects snatched his bag and fled the scene. The stolen bag contained a Samsung S20 phone, various identification and bank cards, and cash and valuables amounting to approximately PhP 300,000.
At 12:50 A.M. the following day, 28 May, the victim sought the help from Makati Police Substation 6 after attempting to trace the suspects through a mobile tracker. Responding swiftly, the station coordinated with Southern Police District intelligence operatives deployed in the area.
By 4:45 A.M., the team successfully apprehended a 24 year old suspect alias “Celso.” The suspect, a resident of Quiapo, Manila was caught in possession of the stolen phone and a live fragmentation grenade.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect is a repeat offender previously arrested for violations of RA 10591 (Illegal Possession of Firearms), RA 9165 (Illegal Drugs), and PD 1602 (Illegal Gambling). He now faces additional charges including Robbery under Article 293 of the Revised Penal Code, violation of RA 11235 (Use of Motorcycle in the Commission of a Crime), and RA 9516 (Illegal Possession of Explosives). He is currently under police custody.
The manhunt for the two accomplices, identified as alias “Tutoy” and alias “Pipoy,” is now in full motion. Based on intelligence report, the suspects regrouped in Makati with the intent to stage another robbery, an act thwarted by the timely police response.
“This operation is a clear example of the Southern Police District’s commitment to public safety and aggressive law enforcement,” said SPD Acting District Director PBGEN Joseph R. Arguelles.
“I commend the leadership and personnel of the Makati City Police Station for their professionalism, initiative, and fast response that prevented further crimes and sent a strong message to lawless elements,” Arguelles said.
The Southern Police District continues to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
