Crime incidents in the eastern part of Metro Manila continued their downward trend, decreasing by 9.26 percent in the past week, according to the Eastern Police District (EPD).
Data from the EPD showed a significant 17.02 percent reduction in both index and non-index crimes from 19 to 25 May 2025, compared to the 26.28 percent recorded between 12 to 18 May.
The EPD attributed this decline to the effectiveness of its visibility-driven policing strategy.
Contributing to the reduced crime rate were 44 anti-illegal drug operations, which resulted in the arrest of 62 individuals and the seizure of 1,204.24 grams of shabu, 3 grams of high-grade marijuana, and 1.5 grams of marijuana.
The total estimated standard drug price of the confiscated narcotics is P8,193,512.
In efforts to apprehend individuals with outstanding warrants, the EPD conducted 44 manhunt operations. These operations led to the arrest of three of the most wanted persons, one other most wanted individual, and 40 other wanted persons.
The intensified campaign against loose firearms resulted in the arrest of one offender and the recovery of one firearm.
Additionally, 39 individuals were apprehended, and P5,701 in betting money was confiscated during 21 operations against illegal gambling.
Under the leadership of EPD officer-in-charge Police Brigadier General Aden Lagradante, the district has implemented a comprehensive visibility strategy focused on proactive crime prevention, immediate police response and community partnership.
The EPD believes that maintaining a strong and consistent police presence not only deters criminal activity but also fosters trust and reassurance among residents and stakeholders.
This increased visibility is evident across the cities of Pasig, Mandaluyong, Marikina, and San Juan. Foot patrols, mobile units, and strategic checkpoints are working together to deter crime and ensure rapid police response.
The EPD is maintaining an active presence in commercial centers, transportation terminals, residential zones, and areas with high foot traffic to ensure consistent law enforcement engagement with the community at all times.
