NBI seizes P47-M fake products

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) announced Thursday the seizure of counterfeit products valued at P47.7 million during a raid in Pasay City.

In a statement, the NBI said that 15,814 pieces of various counterfeit items bearing a specific apparel brand were confiscated after the original company filed a complaint.

The NBI reported that it executed three search warrants on 14 May against the owners, managers, operators and occupants of a building in Pasay City.

It added that the search warrants were implemented for alleged violation of Section 155 (Trademark Infringement) in relation to Section 170 of the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.

Authorities also confiscated various business documents, receipts, parcel tags and machinery used in the alleged illegal operation.

Under the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, individuals involved in trademark infringement may face penalties of up to P1.5 million or imprisonment for up to nine years.
