Prime Integrated Waste Solutions (PWS), a subsidiary of Prime Infra, has sold over 1 million verified plastic credits since launching the initiative in January. PWS noted that this is equivalent to removing the plastic weight of around 700 average-sized cars from the environment.
The credits are generated from PWS’s modern materials recovery facilities (MRFs) in Cebu City and Pampanga and aim to help businesses offset their plastic waste footprint while complying with the Philippines’ Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) law.
“Our goal is to help businesses integrate sustainability into their operations by providing them with an easier, measurable solution for reducing their plastic impact on the environment,” said Cara Peralta, Market Sector Lead for Waste at Prime Infra.
Through these credits, businesses can fulfill EPR requirements by documenting the recovery of a portion of their plastic waste. Each plastic credit purchased comes with a certificate detailing collection and diversion data, including plastic type and recovery method.
PWS uses a digital tracking system to ensure transparency and accuracy, while its high-capacity facilities reduce landfill volumes and methane emissions by maximizing material recovery.
"With our modern, high-capacity facilities, PWS is uniquely positioned to generate verified plastic credits at scale and with greater efficiency, giving businesses a reliable partner for meeting their sustainability and EPR goals,” Peralta added.
