SM targets 50 new EV stations

SM Prime Holdings, Inc. is targeting to install at least 50 more electric vehicle (EV) charging stations within the year as it expands its network to support sustainable mobility nationwide.

The company said Wednesday that the planned installations will be spread across residential communities and leisure estates to complement its current 131 EV charging stations across its malls and office properties.

“Integrating sustainable practices into our operations is a core part of SM Prime’s long-term strategy. Through this initiative, we are also supporting the government’s vision for an inclusive and future-ready EV ecosystem,” SM Prime president Jeffrey C. Lim said.

“We are focused on making sustainability practical and accessible. Expanding our EV charging network is one way we are enabling Filipinos to adopt greener habits as part of daily life.”

SM Prime is a Department of Energy (DOE)-accredited Electric Vehicle Charging Station (EVCS) Provider-Operator. The company said it ensures compliance with national standards and safety protocols to help enable the country’s transition to cleaner transport.

The DOE aims to increase EVs to 25 percent of the passenger vehicle market by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040. It also seeks to deploy sufficient charging stations nationwide between 2023 and 2040.
