Security Screening Officers (SSO) at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 confiscated a toy gun from an outbound passenger bound for Jakarta, Indonesia on Tuesday.
According to the Office for Transportation Security (OTS), SSO Richard Plaza, an X-ray operator at the airport’s baggage make-up department, detected a suspicious item resembling a gun during routine screening.
Checkpoint Supervisor Jonathan De Guia was alerted and coordinated with airline officials to locate the passenger and escort him to the baggage make-up section for a manual inspection of his luggage.
The Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP) was present during the manual baggage examination conducted by baggage inspector SSO Paul Felarca, who discovered the toy gun inside the passenger’s checked-in luggage.
Airport authorities reported that the prohibited item was wrapped in red cloth.
The toy gun was immediately turned over to the PNP-AVSEGROUP for proper disposal. Following standard procedures for recording and confiscation, the passenger was allowed to board his flight.
