The people behind Omoda and Jaecoo didn’t just want to say their new hybrids were reliable. They wanted to prove it by actually driving them across four continents.
That’s exactly what they did. Two models, the Jaecoo J7 SHS and the Omoda C7 SHS, were driven a combined 100,000 kilometers through over ten countries in a long-distance road challenge dubbed the Super Hybrid Marathon. The goal was simple: to put their new Super Hybrid System (SHS) to the test — not in a lab, but on real roads with all the messy, unpredictable conditions that come with them.
The SHS is the latest automotive innovation developed by Omoda & Jaecoo’s parent company. The newest engine technology is born from the parent company’s Global Hybrid Technology Standard Declaration and Open-Source Initiative, which demonstrates its resolve to lead the industry’s safety evolution. The same technology is expected to power Omoda & Jaecoo’s future hybrid lineup. In the Philippines, Jaecoo’s J7 SHS is the first model built with this new technology, boasting the smoothest turbo-charged powertrain in the local hybrid SUV segment.
To achieve long-range high performance, the SHS technology pairs a 1.5T GDI turbo-charged direct-injection engine with a DHT hybrid transmission. When these components work together, they can generate a combined power of 342 HP, a combined torque of 525 Nm, 44.5 percent thermal efficiency, and 98.5 percent electric drive efficiency. The powertrain also efficiently uses its fuel and electric power sources by harnessing regenerative braking and optimized power distribution.
The SHS powertrain also keeps drivers and passengers safe on the road. Its comprehensive battery protection system demonstrates exceptional heat resistance, impact resistance, and waterproofing, ensuring stability amid extreme conditions. Its ultra-high electrical safety control capability also stands out in its class, particularly its 2-millisecond power cutoff function in post-collision scenarios, which prevents thermal runaway. Thanks to these safety mechanisms, Jaecoo J7 SHS earned a global five-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP). The Omoda C7 SHS is also built with the same five-star safety mechanisms.
