Operatives from the Caloocan City Police arrested a man for allegedly selling a high-powered firearm to undercover officers.
According to a report from Caloocan City Police Chief Col. Paul Doles, the operation took place in Phase 3, Barangay 176, Bagong Silang, in northern Caloocan.
The arrested individual was identified only by his alias, “Marvin,” a 39-year-old call center agent.
Initial investigation revealed that the person with whom the police initially made contact online was different from Marvin, who allegedly acted as the gun runner.
“The operation stemmed from a Facebook transaction initiated by ‘Michael,’ who offered to sell a firearm via social media,” the police report disclosed.
“Michael” is reportedly an overseas Filipino worker based in Macau.
Police recovered an M1 Garand US Rifle Cal .30 (Winchester) and eight bullets from Marvin. The firearm was allegedly sold to the operatives for P300,000.
The M1 Garand US Rifle Cal .30 was a standard US military rifle used in the Korean War, Vietnam War and World War II.
Marvin will face charges for violating Republic Act 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, in relation to Section 6 of Republic Act 10175, the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
