Mandaue inspecting trees for safety
The resolution stemmed after a tragic incident in Barangay Ibabao-Estancia, where a decayed buri tree collapsed and killed a six-year-old boy on 1 April 2025

The Mandaue City Council has passed on Monday, a resolution calling on the Mandaue City Environment and Natural Resources Office (MCENRO) to conduct trees inspection within the city to check on its safety and prevent untoward accidents.
City Councilor Jennifer del Mar, the sponsor of the resolution, who currently chair the committee on environment and natural resources, said there is a need to inspect the condition of trees located within Mandaue City “to ensure they do not pose any risk or danger to the safety of Mandauehanons and to avoid untoward accidents.”
The resolution encourages Mandauehanons to report any trees situated in privately-owned land within the city that may pose an imminent danger to life or property, so the MCDRRMO can conduct the necessary inspections.
The resolution stemmed after a tragic incident in Barangay Ibabao-Estancia, where a decayed buri tree collapsed and killed a six-year-old boy on 1 April 2025.
MCENRO, with the Mandaue City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the General Services Office, in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Central Visayas, will conduct the inspections.
The Constitution mandates to uphold the people’s right to a balanced and healthful ecology as the City of Mandaue reaffirmed its commitment to environmental protection through the enforcement of City Ordinance No. 15-2021-1620, which seems to preserve and nurture trees on both public and private properties.
Sections 7 and 8 of the City Ordinance allow for the immediate cutting of trees if it is determined that they pose imminent danger to human life and/or property.
