The Department of Transportation (DoTr) said over the weekend that the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) is ready to resume operations following the completion of its scheduled Holy Week maintenance activities.
According to the agency, MRT-3 personnel conducted comprehensive cleaning, repairs, and installation of new components across the system.
The works included the replacement of passenger lighting ballasts and the repair and reconditioning of spare traction motors, along with other mechanical and electrical parts of rolling stock.
“Also, the public address and intercom system of each unit is subjected to functional testing and preventive maintenance, which is important for a comfortable and safe journey of passengers,” the DoTr said in a statement.
MRT-3 operations were suspended from 17 to 20 April to facilitate maintenance work. The line served an average of 375,474 passengers daily in 2024.
Separately, the DoTr said passenger traffic between the Port of Batangas and the Port of Calapan remained manageable throughout the Holy Week break.
The agency cited that the volume of travelers crossing from Calapan to Batangas is expected to rise beginning Saturday, as vacationers return to Manila and other urban centers.
Data from the Philippine Ports Authority showed that 1.88 million passengers were recorded at various ports nationwide from 12 to 19 April.
