Japanese multinational manufacturer MinebeaMitsumi has officially broken ground on its ¥20 billion (approximately ₱P7.5 billion) production facility at the MRI-Special Economic Zone in Danao, Cebu, promising significant economic gains and job opportunities for the local community.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held on 10 April, was attended by Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) director General Tereso Panga, who lauded Cebu Mitsumi — MinebeaMitsumi’s local arm — for its decades-long contribution to the country’s electronics and automotive industries.
The upcoming 5,000-square-meter facility will house a class 10,000 clean room and non-production areas to support high-tech operations. Once operational, it is expected to generate over 500 direct jobs.
In his keynote speech, Panga praised Cebu Mitsumi’s continued trust in PEZA and the Philippines, highlighting the company’s 40 years of operations in Cebu and its growing footprint across multiple ecozones.
“With its cutting-edge facilities and a workforce of over 20,000 highly skilled Filipinos at its Danao plant, Cebu Mitsumi has been instrumental in making the Philippines a key player in the global supply chain,” Panga said. “Its success is a testament to the strength of our ecozones and the world-class talent we offer.”
Cebu Mitsumi president Tatsuya Mori, representing parent company MinebeaMitsumi, expressed gratitude for PEZA’s consistent support and the streamlined business processes that have allowed the company to thrive and expand in the Philippines.
Panga reaffirmed PEZA’s commitment to supporting companies like Cebu Mitsumi by maintaining a business-friendly environment that prioritizes efficiency, competitiveness, and sustainability. “With your help and support, we can further enhance our ecozones as globally competitive investment hubs,” he added.
