The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday launched the nationwide distribution of voter information sheets (VIS) for the midterm elections.
Comelec Chairperson George Garcia led the distribution of VIS to some registered voters on F.B. Harrison Street in Pasay.
The real challenge here is to make sure that they are the ones who really live in that house. That’s also how we'll know if the address people gave us when they registered is accurate)," Garcia said.
This will help us when we register voters. Later on, we will also know who can be prosecuted or excluded because they don't live there)," he added.
According to Garcia, a VIS contains the voter's name, precinct number, step-by-step instructions on how to vote, and the full list of candidates that voters have the option to vote for.
(We must remember that this is very important because not everyone has access to the internet. So how can they get information from our precinct finder?)," Garcia explained.
"Samantalang kung may ganito, parang sinasabi natin, lahat tayo sa bansang ito ay pantay-pantau kasi iisang klaseng dokumento lang ang matatanggap natin (Whereas if something like this were to happen, it's like we're saying, we're all equal in this country because we only receive the same kind of document)," he added.
Garcia previously said that the Comelec will distribute the VIS even in far-flung areas of the country.
He also reported that they have already started the distribution in Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and the Bangsamoro.
The poll body on Friday, 28 March, completed the printing of 68,431,865 VIS. It was completed in 47 days.
