Ilocos Norte, Philippines — Authorities in Ilocos Norte have launched an official investigation following the circulation of a viral video allegedly showing police officers from the Pasuquin Municipal Police Station physically assaulting civilians.
The footage, which surfaced online over the weekend, appears to show three uniformed policemen hitting individuals who had reportedly come to the station to report an incident. One of the victims was allegedly the stepfather of a netizen who posted the video online, claiming he was “brutally attacked” inside the police premises. Even the person recording the scene was allegedly apprehended by the officers on video.
Brig. Gen. Lou F. Evangelista, Regional Director of the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1), confirmed on Monday that an immediate investigation and validation of the incident is already underway.
“Any violation of the Philippine National Police (PNP) rules and standards, once proven, will be dealt with with utmost seriousness,” Evangelista said in an official statement. He also called on the public to remain calm and assured that the investigation will be impartial and transparent.
The Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office (INPPO), in a separate official statement, stressed that it “does not condone any abuse of authority” and reiterated its commitment to professionalism and accountability within the force.
During a press conference, INPPO officials refused to name the officers involved, citing ongoing investigative procedures, but committed to disclosing their identities as the inquiry progresses.
Officials emphasized that appropriate actions will be taken based on the outcome of the probe, and updates will be provided to the public to maintain transparency.
